Amanda returned to the pool in style today at the Southwest Classic in Tuscon by winning the 200 Breast event in a time of 2:31.29 – nearly a second and half ahead of 2nd place Katelyn Weddle.

I love all sports but the ones I do are : mountain bike, snowboard, surf, and dirt bike.

My training has changed a lot over the years. Especially what I do out of the water. I believe in mixing things up and enjoying what your doing so that it never gets boring or feels like work. I try and do a lot of cross training like mountain biking, etc.

When you were at the 1996 Olympics,were you nervous because you were 14 years old? – Samantha

I was that 14 year old that was pretty oblivious to how big the Olympics were. That definetly helped me stay calm and just have fun.

Staying focused was a difficult thing for me to do after the 2004 Olympics. You want to continue to train, but you also want to enjoy the perks of all your hard training. It took me awhile to learn how to balance everything but that’s a good life skill to have.

Eating Habits

Following up on my last tip – I’ve been changing my diet to help get in better shape. I’m cutting out most sugars , bye bye candy , and getting my carbs through fruits and veggies, also eating more protein. I’ve been cooking a lot more and being aware of what I put in my body. Try to do one thing to better your eating habits!
